Conduct failure analysis / root cause analysis activity to understand why things have gone wrong and then implement preventative and corrective actions and monitor to ensure success. Use data and strive to reduce variation so that manufacturing and assembly operations are predictable and controlled. Implement mistake proofing measures wherever possible. Continually drive cost and lead time reduction activities through removal of waste whilst improving the processes to enable right first-time increase.

Linux Kernel Engineer

We’re looking for an innovative, motivated Linux Kernel Engineer to join the team responsible for our streaming platform. This is a full time role based in our office on the outskirts of Glasgow (albeit we're currently working from home).

If you joined our team, you would be working with a group of engineers who develop and maintain all the code used on our DS (Digital Streamer) range. This ranges from kernel configuration and device drivers to network protocols (HTTP, UPnP, many others), to audio pipeline, to on-board UI.

While we write and maintain much of our own code, we know we can't do it all. We also integrate a number of third party libraries, from kernel to security and codecs. As well as consuming open source libraries, we open much of our code.

The vast majority of work is in C++, with C used to interface with third party libraries and hardware. This role will initially be focused on linux kernel but there is scope to evolve the role to suit the right candidate.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Linux Kernel driver development
  • Developing for real-time, embedded software applications
  • Multi-threading and concurrency
  • Cross-platform development experience
  • U-boot

Desirable

  • Experience in working with audio streaming
  • Interest in music
  • C++ experience including C++11 (and later) and STL
  • OO design and software architecture skills
  • Experience integrating third party libraries (e.g. libressl, Bonjour/zeroconf, codecs)
  • Working knowledge of python
  • Build systems and automated testing
  • Agile development methodologies

As well as a competitive salary and opportunities for career progression we also offer some fantastic benefits such as:

  • Flexible and home working
  • 32 days annual holidays
  • Holiday purchase scheme
  • Company pension
  • Life Assurance
  • Generous staff discount
